Web server problem fixed.

One of the web servers was rebooted to correct a
file locking problem. When a particular web site
was visited, the server would lock a file without
ever unlocking it. This caused subsequent visits to
this web site to hang, waiting for the lock to be
released. Over time this backlog of hung requests
grew to a point where it impacted response to other
web sites.

Web servers slow again

The web servers handling most web sites other than
www.virginia.edu became slow again this morning.

The groups responsible for the service are attempting
to identify the cause and return services. Other than
web site slowdown, the server issues being seen are
different than those from yesterday.

The Virgo database is unavailable on virgo.lib.virginia.edu.
The database access is being repaired and is expected to be
functional again by about 11 am.

UPDATE:
The Sirsi-Virgo system is up and running, but with some
Restrictions. We are having to rebuild all the Headings
and Keyword indices to recover from a corrupted index.
We anticipate that this could take up to 24 hrs to complete
(12:30 pm 11/4/2009).

Circulation - full functionality

Searching will work, but will return odd results as portions
of the indexes are being rebuilt. Searches will improve as
the process nears the end.

Here are the restrictions for ALL Libraries:
1. No Bibloads
2. No Reports
3. Cataloging – no major authority work,
editing/adding of calls is okay.
No mass amounts of editing.
