  2. Click the Settings tab near the top of the screen.

Remaining Space in Your Quota

Mailbox quotas. To ensure fair distribution of the available disk storage among all members of the University community, the Central Mail Service (CMS) places a limit on each user's available storage space for email stored remotely. To view how much you have used of your quota:

  • At the top of the Quota page is a message stating whether you are within or over your CMS Quota.
  • Compare the value next to Your usage: with Your quota: to see how close you are to your quota. If desired, you can scroll down to see the size of each mailbox (folder).

Changing Your CMS Password

  1. Review the password criteria at the top of the page.
  2. Type your current (old) CMS password in the box next to Current CMS Password:
  3. Type your new (desired) CMS password in the box next to New CMS Password: and then re-enter it to confirm.
  4. Click the Change Password button to finish.

Setting Server-Side Rules (Filtering Your Mail)

Please review Mail Filtering/Server Side Rules for more information.

Setting a Vacation Message

How does "Vacation mail" work on the CMS? When you enable the Vacation program on the CMS, it will send one message to each person who sends an email to you. Each sender will receive no more than one Vacation response every two weeks. Keep in mind that if you are away Monday with a Vacation message enabled, and back on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with Vacation disabled, and away again on Friday with a new Vacation message enabled, those who sent you an email on Monday and received your Vacation response then would not receive your new Friday Vacation message, because their Monday contact to you would not expire for two weeks.

Enable Vacation mail. Vacation mail allows you to inform the people who send you email that you have received the message, but will not be able to answer it for a period of time. To enable this feature:

  1. Select Enabled from the drop-down menu.
  2. Below Subject of all messages: type the subject you want to appear on your Vacation replies.
    • Example: I'm currently on vacation.
  3. Below Text of all your replies: type the text of the message you would like in your Vacation replies.
    • Example: I will reply to your message upon my return next week.
  4. Click the Update button to finish. The Vacation mail subject and message text will be saved and available for future use.

Disable or edit your Vacation mail message. After you have enabled Vacation mail, you will see an option on the main menu to disable this program or to update your Vacation message. To disable this feature:

  1. Choose Disable from the drop-down menu to the right of Vacation Mail is currently:
  2. Click theUpdate button to finish.

Mail Forwarding

Enable email forwarding. This option sets where the Central Mail Service (CMS) delivers your mail. If you want to forward your email to another address, enter the full email address for that account. To enable this feature:

  1. Select Enable from the drop-down menu.
  2. Beside Your forward is currently set to: type the full email address of the account where you would like to receive email messages.
    • Example: mst3k@eservices.virginia.edu
  3. Click the Update button to finish.

Save a copy of incoming email messages. By default, mail forwarding does not save a copy of your email on the CMS; it simply redirects the incoming message to the email address you have specified. If you wish to keep a copy of your incoming messages in your CMS account as well as redirecting the messages elsewhere:

  1. Check in the box beside Keep a copy of my email on the CMS.
  2. Click the Update button to finish.

Note that accounts that use this option are still restricted in total storage space by the account quota.

Disable email forwarding. To disable this feature:

  1. Select Disable from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click the Update button to finish.
