Recommended Settings for Entourage 2004

Information on recommended settings for Entourage 2004 for use with the UVa centralized Exchange server.
If you are off-Grounds, you must have a connection via UVa Anywhere to use Entourage 2004 with the UVa centralized Exchange server. You will need to know your Eservices/Exchange password, and have a UVa centralized Exchange account to be able to use Entourage 2004 on the UVa centralized Exchange server.

Entourage 2004 Recommended Settings

For maximum functionality for you as you use the UVa centralized Exchange server, ITC recommends the following settings. You may want to consult with the computer support professionals in your department to see if there are departmental settings that are required.

  • Recommended setting: Avoid seeing responses to meetings you organize, but be able to know who is attending.

    Setting not available in Entourage 2004. Set using Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003.

  • Recommended setting: Allow other people to see your calendar for a year in advance.

  • Recommended setting: Allow other people to see your Free/Busy times.
    1. Select Calendar.
    2. Select Calendar [eservices.virginia.edu].
    3. From the Edit drop-down menu, select Folder Properties.
    4. On the Permissions tab, select Default in the Name | Permission Level box.
    5. From the Permission Level: drop-down, select Free/Busy time.
    6. Click the OK button.
    7. Click the OK button.
    8. Click the OK button.

  • Recommended setting: Verify your Time Zone is set correctly.
    1. From the Entourage drop-down menu, select Preferences.
    2. Under General Preferences, select Calendar.
    3. from the Default time zone for new events: drop-down, select Eastern Time (US & Canada).
    4. Click the OK button.
  • Recommended setting: Disable automatic reminders for all meeting invitees.
    1. From the Entourage drop-down menu, select Preferences.
    2. Under General Preferences, select Calendar.
    3. Clear Set default reminder box.
    4. Click OK button.
  • Recommended setting: Set Send/Receive options correctly.
    1. From the Tools drop-down menu, select Run Schedule.
    2. From the Run Schedule drop-down, select Edit Schedules.
    3. Select Send & Receive All.
    4. Click Edit.
    5. In the box in Repeating Schedule Every Minutes, type: 30.
    6. Click Add Occurrence.
    7. If needed, select On Quit for the drop-down button..
    8. Clear Only if Connected.
    9. Click Add Action.
    10. If needed, select Receive Mail for the drop-down button.
    11. Click the OK button.
    12. Close the Schedules window.
  • Recommended setting: Turn auto-archiving off.
